Jorge Ivan Becerra (born May 22, 1984) is a retired Mexican soccer player.
Career
Amateur
Becerra played college soccer at Los Angeles Mission College from 2002 to 2003, scoring 34 goals and 19 assists during his two seasons there. He then transferred to the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he played two seasons for UCSB's soccer team, earning 12 goals and 5 assists.
Professional
Becerra was drafted in the third round (27th overall) of the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft by the Columbus Crew. He saw no first team action during the 2006 season with the Crew. However, Becerra was sent on loan to then-USL Second Division side Cincinnati Kings[1] to gain experience. He made his professional debut on July 21, 2006.[2] He featured as a starter for them in a new position, central defense, and saw 4 games with the Kings, the last being August 13, 2006,[3] before being returned to the Crew. He was waived during the 2007 pre-season as the Crew sought to become roster-compliant.
Having been unable to secure a spot with a professional team during 2007 or 2008, Becerra signed for Ventura County Fusion of the USL Premier Development League for the 2009 season. He made his debut for the team on May 30, 2009, in a game against Bakersfield Brigade,[4] and scored one of Fusion's goals during their victory in the 2009 PDL Championship.[5]
At the end of the PDL season, Becerra signed for the Portland Timbers.,[6] and played 1 regular season game before being released on December 7, 2009.[7]
After returning to Ventura County Fusion for 2010, Becerra signed with Wilmington Hammerheads of the new third division USL Pro League on March 2, 2011.[8]
