Intruders is a drama television series based on Michael Marshall Smith's novel The Intruders (2007). Its 8-episode first season premiered in August 2014 on the American cable television network BBC America and is a joint production between BBC America and British channel BBC Two.[1][2] Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Stamm share directing duties.[3] On February 27, 2015, it was announced that Intruders was cancelled after only one season.[4]

Pilot

Jack Whelan is a former Los Angeles Police Department detective who is asked to investigate some strange occurrences. He tries to find answers, but he's stonewalled at every turn. Baffled, he continues until he starts to concentrate his search on a secret society (Qui Reverti) that chases immortality by seeking refuge in the bodies of others. Through an unknown method, agents of the society - Sheperds - find the hosts of the returning souls and show them items - "triggers" - that were the last thing the Qui Reverti member saw. Per the society's customs, once the soul has awakened, they will committ suicide, which forces the host's soul to go to the afterlife if their will isn't strong enough to force the "intruder" to go instead. As shown in Jack Whealen's case, this also destroys marriages.

At the same time, a serial killer named Marcus Fox comes back to life in the body of little girl. However, both souls fight for control, causing both to have muddled memories. This also shows that the guidebook for the returning souls needs to be read as an adult, as a child will have trouble understanding what it means.
