The International College of Business and Technology, popularly known as the ICBT Campus is the education arm of Ceylinco consolidated is also a BOI approved project formed to conduct internationally recognized educational programs in association with universities and educational institutes.^[1] Established in 2000, ICBT delivers Certificate, Diplomas, Higher National Diplomas, Pre-university programs, Undergraduate programs and Masters level programs in association with universities and educational service providers in the UK, Australia, Thailand, India and Sweden.

ICBT Training and Testing Centre is the latest and the most modern facility in Colombo, delivering range of examinations from Prometric & Pearson VUE testing providers and offers a wide range of classes and on-line testing facilities in association with some of the software and hardware vendors of the world such as Microsoft, CISCO and SUN.^[2]

History

The International College of Business and Technology was founded in 1990 as a Board of Investment of Sri Lanka project with the objective of providing foreign education programs in Sri Lanka, in association with universities and educational service providers around the world.

ICBT Campus has seven branches in Sri Lanka; the main campus is situated in Mount Lavinia and branches in Colombo-04,Colombo-03, Nugegoda, Kurunegala, Kandy, Matara, Galle and Jaffna.

Structure

Each and every department includes its superior and subordinates of 168 employees within the branch network of ICBT Campus. All the departments have an interrelationship.

Marketing division introduces the students to the Campus through student counselors and they enroll the student for suitable programs. Student counselors get inquiries through eFlyers, general telephone and walking students to ICBT.

BTEC HND's are the fastest pathway to a degree and students can complete their Degree programme in 2 ½ years at ICBT Campus.^[3]

The Cardiff Metropolitan program in Sri Lanka at ICBT Campus is the exact MBA program taught in Cardiff, UK and incorporates proper criteria’s when recruiting and awarding MBA such as face–to-face lectures for each modules thought by both academics and industry specialists, proper guidance and evaluation of student progress, direct involvement from the university for quality, compulsory dissertation and viva.^[7]

Branches

ICBT Mount Campus

The ICBT Mount Campus operates as the head office and the main campus where most of the senior management of ICBT is based. The ICBT Mount Campus has the most comprehensive state of the art facilities inclusive of library. Study rooms, Student recreational areas, computer laboratories and Engineering laboratories. At present, the ICBT Mount Campus specializes in Higher National Diploma’s in three Engineering disciplines and Masters Programs.

ICBT Colombo Campus

The ICBT Colombo Campus started its operations in the year of 2006. This was the first branch of ICBT Campus located at Mount Lavinia and ICBT Colombo campus was opened with the main aim of providing undergraduate education from a convenient location being based in Colombo 04. At present, the ICBT Colombo campus has a student population of 950 undergraduate students and 160 postgraduate students. There are all most other 400 students following various short term programs at ICBT Colombo Campus. The ICBT Colombo Campus is one of the most comprehensive campuses in Sri Lanka with the Pearson Vue examination centers and is the leading preparation course provider for the International English Language Testing System in the country.

The ICBT Colombo Campus provides facilities such as classrooms, libraries, computer labs, engineering labs, student recreation, cafeteria, gym and a swimming pool, etc.^[9]

ICBT Kandy Campus

The Kandy Campus of ICBT commenced its operations in 2006 to cater to the educational need of the Kandy and its surrounding regions. The ICBT Kandy Campus has a dedicated library and computer labs with Internet facility.

ICBT Southern Campus

The Southern Campus was opened in the heart of the Matara in 2007.

Sports

The Inter-Campus Sports Day of the International College of Business and Technology (ICBT) takes place annually. Thousands of students representing the different campuses of ICBT namely the City, Mount, Kandy, Matara, Nugegoda and Galle branches take part in this event comprising a multitude of athletic events.

ICBT Mount campus emerged as the champion of the annual inter ICBT campus cricket tournament, which was held on 3 April 2013. In the finals Mount comprehensively beat the formidable City team becoming Champions for the 4th consecutive year.^[10]

International College of Business and Technology (Sri Lanka) was among the eight teams, Leeds Bradford MCC (UK), University of New South Wales (Australia), University of Liberal Arts (Bangladesh), Karachi University (Pakistan), University of Pretoria (South Africa), Rizvi College(India) and Jamaica (West Indies), which played in the Red Bull Campus Cricket Tournament, conducted in the United Kingdom from July 21-16.^[11]

Awards and Achievements

The ICBT Campus received a series of International awards on 28 September re-confirming its status not only in Sri Lanka but as the best in Asia. At the 'World Marketing Summit 2013 (WMS)', Golden Star Academic and Educational Excellence Awards in Putrajaya, Malaysia, ICBT Campus was awarded as the 'Best educational institute in management'.^[12]

• Platinum Partner Award

The "Platinum Partner Award" was awarded to ICBT Campus by Edexcel International at the Award Ceremony held on 15th July 2014 with the participation of all Edexcel partners in Sri Lanka by the Pearson Education. This special award was given as an appreciation of the great partnership between the Edexcel & ICBT Campus. The platinum award is based on the largest number of students, quality of Infrastructure, widest range of programs, well qualified lecture panel, industry affiliations and student satisfaction.^[13]

• IELTS National Award 2013/2014

• Chancellor and Vice Chancellor Awards Ceremony in Mumbai

ICBT won 5 awards in best education excellence criteria in Chancellor and Vice Chancellor Awards Ceremony in Mumbai. ICBT Campus was awarded as the “best Private Engineering University” under the private university category and was awarded for “excellence in online course design” under the Global Distance Learning Awards. In addition to the Institutional awards, ICBT Campus was acknowledged in the Individual categories. Dr. Mohan Pathirana the CEO/Executive Director of ICBT Campus was inducted to the “Hall of Fame” while the Chairman of ICBT Campus Dr. Jagath Alwis was honored with two awards. Dr. Alwis received the award for “outstanding contribution for Education and the coveted award of “Educational Entrepreneur of the year”.^[14]

• National Business Excellence Awards 2014

ICBT won 2 awards in the Education Service Sector and Business Category from National Business Excellence Awards Ceremony in Colombo.^[15]

• ICBT Civil Engineering students Win Gold at International Young Inventors 2015

A Team of four undergraduate students of ICBT Mount Lavinia Campus participated, representing Sri Lanka in the National Innovation and Creativity Exhibition (NICE) and the 2nd International Young Inventors Award (IYIA) 2015 organized by Indonesia.^[16]
