The Intel 8284 is an oscillator chip, which was developed primarily for the Intel-8086/8087/8088/8089-processors. The component comes in 18-pin DIL package. It was licensed i.e. to NEC and Siemens.

It has a clock generator and an additional logic for READY/RESET-control. It is used since the first PC (IBM PC and IBM PC XT).

The Intel 8284 and I8284 (industrial grade) version was available for USD $4.90 and USD $13.50 in quantities of 100 respectively.[1] [2]
