Institute of International Programs of PetrSU - structural subdivision of Petrozavodsk State University, PetrSU (Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia, Russian Federation).

Institute of International Programs consists of 3 centres:

The main aim of the Centre is the development of cooperation between Petrozavodsk State University and scientific, innovative, commercial and social organizations of the Atlantic and Asian region.

The European Union Information Centre was opened in Petrozavodsk State University in 2002. This Centre was the 10th centre that was founded by the Representatives of the European Commission in the regions of the Russian Federation. By that time such centres had existed in Saint-Petersburg, Saratov, Kazan, Kaliningrad, at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow), Moscow State International Institute of International Relations and Moscow State University.

Now there are 13 centres in the Russian Federation. The main aim of these centres is to assist with the development of European research in the Russian Federation.

Within the framework of its activity the Centre is engaged with gathering, exchanging and spreading information and literature about the EU and about its member countries. It provides consulting services for research implementation and organizes different conferences, seminars, schools, round-table discussions, lecturers, etc. The Centre actively cooperates with various funds and organizations in order to implement the exchange of information on the organization of seminars, conferences and discussions so that the citizens of the Republic of Karelia can also take part in them.

The EU Information Centre runs its own library. The library includes about 4500 items which are included in its electronic catalog. Visitors can read books and magazines in the library and in cases of necessity they can also borrow them for one month and study at home. In the Centre, Visitors can use computers with internet access they are able to connect to the EU databases such as EUR-LEX, PreLex and EU Bookshop. The library resources include items that are divided into sections, such as regional policy, human rights, education, economy, ecology, jurisprudence and others.

The goals of the International Education Centre of PetrSU are the organization of foreign citizens’ recruitment, training, and promotion of international cooperation in the academic sphere of Petrozavodsk State University.

Institute of International Programs offers summer programmes focusing on teaching the Russian language to foreign students. This programme is specifically designed for students who would like to begin studying the Russian language, improve their grasp of the Russian language, prepare to study in Russia and learn more about Russian history, culture and traditions.

With 20 lessons per week, the Intensive Russian language course enables students to achieve a working command of the Russian language in a fast and efficient manner. The class size is limited to four students and lessons are normally Monday through Friday.

The Summer Russian Language Programme consists of a study programme, a home stay programme and cultural programme.

The language courses for high school students, university students, and adults are held at the School of Foreign Languages. The languages provided are English, Danish, German, Norwegian, Finnish, French and Swedish.

Since July 2010, Institute of International Programs of PetrSU is the Official Centre for the TOEFL (iBT). The TOEFL test is the most widely respected English-language test in the world; recognized by more than 8,000 colleges, universities and agencies in more than 130 countries.

The Russian Language Testing Centre of the Institute of International Programs PetrSU was founded as the regional centre in January 2005. It works according to the agreement with the Leading Testing Centre of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (Moscow). Since the opening of the Russian Language Testing Centre more than 100 people from Finland, Norway, Germany, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, Argentina, Great Britain, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, South Korea, China, Vietnam and other countries have passed the test and gotten certificates. At the Centre, multi-level testing is carried out and passing results are confirmed with certificates that have official status both in Russia and Europe. This certificate is also accepted by the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE). Specialists at the Centre offer a Russian preparation course to help pass the test. It can take the form of group or individual lessons.

From August 2011 Institute of International Programs of PetrSU is the Official Centre for the TOLES.

The Translation Centre provides translations of various documents and its notarization such as diplomas, certificates of education, passports, student’s and work record books, references, certificates, extracts, etc.; translations of text of any complexity, translations of correspondence with foreign organizations and assistance in writing of CVs (Curriculum Vitae), letters and texts in foreign languages.
