The Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow (IET, Lucknow) is a state government-funded engineering college in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is an autonomous constituent college of Uttar Pradesh Technical University (erstwhile Gautam Buddh Technical University). It is ranked among the top engineering colleges of Uttar Pradesh.

History

The IET was established by the government of Uttar Pradesh in 1984, for imparting technical education. The institute is fully financed by Uttar Pradesh Government and is being administered by the Executive Committee of Gautam Buddh Technical University.

The institute is fully residential. The institute was formerly affiliated(1984-1999) to the University of Lucknow,and from 2000-2012 to Uttar Pradesh Technical University, currently Autonomous Institute and recognised by AICTE. The institute had been a constituent college of Gautam Buddh Technical University(2010-2012). Currently it is again under Uttar Pradesh Technical University(2013–present).

IET Lucknow, started in November 1984, began with the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of Lucknow University. Initially, it offered a B.Tech degree in three branches - Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics. Within a year, two more branches - Civil and Mechanical - were introduced. The campus was constructed by Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd (UPRNN) on an 100-acre (0.40 km2) plot purchased from the Lucknow Development Authority. UPRNN constructed a substation, academic block, eight boys’ hostels, three girls’ hostel and nearly 70 residences. LDA provided its support for construction of external roads, electric supply, drainage and sewage.

The founder director, Prof. Suresh Chandra, joined on 26 June 1984 and the teaching faculty joined their posts from 11 October 1984 onwards. The Director, IET Lucknow, also assumed the office of Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow University on 25 April 1985.

Admission

Admission is given on the basis of the rank obtained by the candidate in SEE-UPTU (Uttar Pradesh State Engineering Admission Test). This exam is conducted by UPTU. Around 4,50,000 students appear in this exam every year seeking admission to more than 800 engineering as well as management colleges affiliated to UPTU.

IET Lucknow consistently ranks 1st amongst these 700 odd engineering colleges.

Hostels

The institute has hostel facilities for boys and girls. There are seven boys' and three girls' hostels. An additional boys' hostel is under construction. They accommodate around 1500 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Committees consisting of elected student representatives manage them. All the hostels are located on the campus.

Each hostel has its own mess, operated by an elected student representative. Each hostel is provided with a television, telephone, water-purifier, water-cooler and kit for indoor games and outdoor games. The hostels have a shop within its boundary for basic amenities.

Hostels are known as blocks A and B (Vishveshvaraiya Chhatravas), C and D (Raman Chhatravas), E (Ramanujam Hostel), F (Aryabhatt Hostel) Gargi Bhavan and New Girls Hostel.

Culture and fest

Encore is the annual fest of the institute which is held in month of April. This fest is technical as well as cultural. The motto of the institute is Gyan Bharam Kriyam Binam which means that knowledge is a load without application. The students of this institute are not only rich in technical and academic skills but they also excel culturally. To celebrate all these skills of students, Encore is organized every year. Other colleges from throughout the country are invited to participate in the fest.

Encore stands for Endeavour, Nous, Creativity, Opera, Rollick and Enthusiasm. This is the theme of Encore with which we budding engineers bring out the very best in ourselves. It provides a platform for self-analysis and also enhances managing,organizing and many more hidden capabilities among the students.

The events at Encore are as follows : Stage Events Musical Night : Eastern Slot : Group songs, Filmi Solo, Non-filmi solo, Duet songs, Folk Songs. Western Slot : Solo, Group Songs, Instrumental, Classical Round. Choreography : Western Group, Western Solo, Folk Group, Folk Solo, Classical Solo, Choreography. Dramatics : Street Play, Skit, Stage Play, Mono-acting, Mimicry. Non-Stage Events Fine arts : Sketching, Spray Painting, 3-D drawing, Mehndi, Ad-making, Rangoli, Collage Making, Cartooning and Clay modelling. Quiz events : Computer Quiz, sports Quiz, Business Quiz, History Quiz, Cine quiz, Trivia. Technical events : Seminar, Technical Quiz, Puzzlika, Mock GRE, Creative Writing, Mathematics Olympiad. English Literary Events : Debate, Group Discussion, Elocution, Hard Talk, Jam, Reason It Out, Mock CAT, Volte-Face. Shauryotsava is the annual sports fest.

Placement

The institute has a placement cell which is headed by Dr. Virendra Pathak, Professor, Civil Engineering department. Companies like Adobe, Pitney Bowes, TCS, Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra (erstwhile MBT), Hero Honda, Lanco, L&T, Birlasoft, Nokia Siemens Networks, Alstom, Reliance Power, Newgen Software, Honda, Fiserv, Impetus and many others [1] visit for on-campus placements.

The Institute was granted an Industry Institute Partnership Cell in 1999 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

Location

The institute is situated at Sitapur Road. From the Charbagh railway station a taxi can be hired or bus (Route No. 33) can be taken. The distance is around 15 km from the station and it takes around 30–45 minutes to reach the campus.

It also has the headquarters of Uttar Pradesh Technical University.

Alumni

IET Lucknow Alumni Association was officially registered on 25 May 2009. The association had its first General Body Meeting on 31 May 2009 at the Scientific Converntion Center, KGMU, Lucknow.

Two years after its inception, the Advisory committee held the first elections to the Executive Committee for the term of 2011-2013. The results of elections were announced on 29 April 2011 on the alumni website. The new elected members for the executive committee for the term of 2011-2013 are:[2]

Recently IET organized "CONVERGENCE" the annual alumni meet, to celebrate the silver jubliee of the first passed out batch.

Connectivity

Institute possesses a dedicated 2 Gbit/s leased line from National Informatics Centre, serving academic block, administrative block, computer center, all hostels and faculty residents counting to a total of 1500 LAN terminals. There is also WiFi connectivity in recently constructed hostels and computer labs.
