The Institute of Certified Practising Accountants (ICPA) was founded in 2001 in the United Kingdom. It is a professional organisation representing practising accountants.

The Association's headquarters are in Hornchurch, England.

Designation

The ICPA offers its members the designation of Certified Practising Accountant (ICPA). Fellowship status is only offered to members that have not been subject to disciplinary proceeding for a minimum 5 year period and is designated as ICPA (Fellow).

Membership requirements

The ICPA is open to ALL practising Accountants whether members of a CCAB body or qualified by experience. For those members qualified by experience it requires a prospective member to have relevant accountancy experience, 5 or more years in practice or 10 years in the accountancy profession and to detail their previously acquired knowledge.

Recent developments

The ICPA is vocal in its opposition to the legal protection of the term accountant in the United Kingdom. It is currently running a campaign entitled ‘Accountants Under Fire’ to oppose any such legislation in the UK.
