The Independent Alliance is an Irish political group formed in March 2015 by independent politicians. It was founded by Shane Ross and Michael Fitzmaurice. It is not a political party and will not impose any whip except on confidence motions.[1]
The alliance is made up five independent TDs and two senators. It comprises TDs Shane Ross, Michael Fitzmaurice, Finian McGrath, John Halligan and Tom Fleming; and senators Feargal Quinn and Gerard Craughwell.[2] Paul Gogarty, a former Green party TD, is also running for the alliance.
They hope to field over 20 candidates at the 2016 general election.[1][3]

As the Independent Alliance is not a political party, all of its elected members continue to sit as Independent politicians.
Councillors standing for the Alliance are represented on South Dublin, Fingal, Louth, Kildare, Galway, Offaly, Donegal, Westmeath and Sligo County Councils along with a Councillor on Cork City Council.
Ideology
With no policies or party whip the Alliance does not have a set ideology with candidates from across the right-left political spectrum. Though the group's website has set out a list of "principles and priorities" based around general themes of political reform that the Alliance has claimed will form a charter of its election candidates.
