Icheri Sheher (Azerbaijani: İçәri Şәhәr ; English: Inner City) - is the last station of the first line of Baku Metro, following “Sahil” station. The station was called “Baki Soveti” till 2008.[1][2]
Characteristics
The station was opened on November 6, 1967, in first turn of “Icheri sheher - Nariman Narimanov”. There are green plants in front of the station’s vestibule. Pyramid of the vestibule made from glass can be looked through these plants. There are two halls within the vestibule: cash and escalator halls as in all stations of metro. “Icheri sheher” – is the closest station to historical part of the city and especially for that reason it is called “Icheri Sheher”.
There is an exit between the first and second lines and all trains arrive and departure only through the first line, because the second line doesn’t work.
Plans to extend this line to South-Western parts of Baku have been mooted with three extra stations beyond Icheri sheher anticipated.
