Ibrahim Gashi (born 6 April 1963 in Lapušnik village in Drenas Kosovo) is an Kosovar Albanian academic and philosopher. He is professor at the University of Pristina and has been rector there since 2012 and resigned in 2014.

Early life and education

He studied at the University of Pristina, where in 1994, also defended his master thesis and began work as an assistant (1994–1998) and as a lecturer (1998 to 2004), in the Department of History of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Pristina. In 2003 he earned a doctorate in political history of the Balkans in a three-year study program (job) at the Institute for East European Studies at the University of Graz (Austria). From 2004 he was elected assistant professor in the Department of Political Science, UP, where currently works as associate professor of subjects: History of International Relations and Foreign Policy and Diplomacy.

Politics career

Before entering politics exerted some important academic functions of the University of Pristina as Coordinator of the Center for Teaching Perfect (2004–2008), Head of the Department of Political Science (2004–2007) and Board Member of the University Prishtina (2005–2006); Spokesman of the University (2005–2006). In October 2006 the founding assembly of AKR Ibrahim Gashi was elected a member of the Presidency of the AKR and later vice president, the position he currently holds (2011). In the 2007 elections he was elected member of the Assembly of Kosovo where AKR represents the highest organ of the Assembly, then a member of the Presidency of the Assembly and a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Rector of University of Prishtina

In 2012, the University of Prishtina, was elected rector of the University of Pristina.
