Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas is the current and 22nd Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) of the Nigerian Navy. He was appointed to the position on July 13, 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari.[1]
Background & education
Admiral Ibas is from Nko in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State. He enlisted into the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of the 26th Regular Course in 1979 and was commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant in 1983.[2] Other officers in Course 26 include the current Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin.[3]
Career
Until his appointment as CNS, Ibas was the Chief Executive Officer of Navy Holdings Limited. His previous appointments include: Naval Provost Marshal, Chief Staff Officer, Naval Training Command, Chief of Administration, Naval Headquarters, Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command and Chief of Logistics, Naval Headquarters.[2]
