Ian Schultz (born February 4, 1990) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He is currently playing with the Allen Americans in the ECHL. Schultz was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the 3rd round (87th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He is the younger brother of Los Angeles Kings defenceman Jeff Schultz.
Playing career
Schultz played with the Calgary Hitmen in the Western Hockey League (WHL) from 2006-07 to 2009-10, collecting 55 goals and 72 assists for 127 points and 405 penalty minutes in 196 games.
On June 17, 2010, the St. Louis Blues traded Schultz, along with Lars Eller, to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Jaroslav Halak.[1] In the 2010–11 season, Schultz made his American Hockey League debut with the Hamilton Bulldogs.
After playing two full seasons with the Bulldogs and a poor training camp, he was assigned to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL and was traded to the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL. In March he was traded for the second time to the San Francisco Bulls.
As a free agent prior to the 2014–15 season, Schultz accepted an invite to the Manchester Monarchs training camp.[2] Upon conclusion of training camp and without a contract offer, Schultz belatedly signed a one-year ECHL contract with the Allen Americans on October 23, 2014.[3]
