Iain De Caestecker (/ˈən də ˈkæstəkər/ EE-ən kast-ə-kər;[1] born 29 December 1987)[2][3] is a Scottish actor, best known for his role as Agent Leo Fitz in the television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Life and career

De Caestecker was born in Glasgow, Scotland. The son of two doctors, De Caestecker began his acting career as a child. Iain's family is quite large. He has a father named John de Caestecker, two sisters named Nicky de Caestecker and Ella de Caestecker and 3 brothers named Gordon, Callum and Joe de Caestecker. He had a small part in the 2000 film The Little Vampire before appearing in the United Kingdom television shows Coronation Street and Lip Service and studying at Langside College for a few years.[4] He landed the lead roles in the 2011 BBC sci-fi series The Fades and the three-part 2011 BBC series Young James Herriot.[5] He was nominated for a British Academy Scotland Award for his work in the latter.[6]

In November 2012, De Caestecker was cast in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.[7] Since then, he has received massive critical acclaim for the portrayal of his character Leo Fitz, especially in its second season. He also voiced Leo Fitz in the fourth season of the television series Ultimate Spider-Man.[8] In the same year, Ryan Gosling cast De Caestecker as the lead in his directorial debut film, Lost River.[9]

In 2013, De Caestecker appeared in the video for Gabrielle Aplin's song "Please Don't Say You Love Me".
