"I Pretend" is a song written by Barry Mason and Les Reed.[2] Des O'Connor's recording of this track became a number-one hit in the UK Singles Chart in July 1968,[3] and a number-one hit in Ireland the same month.
The only version of the song to chart in the United States was by Mel Carter, whose cover hit #38 on the Easy Listening charts in the fall of 1968.[4]
