Indian Institute of Management Rohtak, abbreviated IIM-Rohtak, is a public business school located in Rohtak, Haryana, India. It is the eighth Indian Institute of Management to be established. It was inaugurated in June 2010.[1]

History

The 11th Five Year Plan, endorsed by the National Development Council in December 2007, envisaged the establishment of seven new IIMs.

IIM Rohtak is amongst the seven new IIMs that were approved by the Union Cabinet on 27 August 2009. It is also India’s first IIM north of Delhi. The institute was mentored by IIM Lucknow in its formative years. Prof. P.Rameshan, the dean for administration, of IIM Kozhikode, is the current director of IIM Rohtak.[2]

Inauguration

IIM Rohtak started functioning on 30 June 2010. It was formally inaugurated on the same day by Mr. Ravi Kant, Vice Chairman of Tata Motors Ltd., in the presence of eminent faculty of IIM Lucknow and board members. Mr. Ravi Kant is the first Chairperson of the Board of Governors of IIM Rohtak. The initial batch strength was pegged at 48 students to keep a high student teacher ratio.[3][4] From the academic session 2011-2012, the intake has been increased to 120-130 students.[5]

Campus

IIM Rohtak's 80 hectares (200 acres) campus is being constructed at Sunaria near Rohtak city. A budget of about Rs.2.50 billion has been allocated by the Central Government of India to develop the campus. The foundation stone for the new campus was laid on 1 October 2010.[6]

IIM Rohtak is temporarily functioning from Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak. The classrooms are located in the humanities block. The block is supported by library and IT facilities. According to the MOU signed between IIM Rohtak and MDU, the students and staff of IIM Rohtak will have access to almost all the infrastructure of the university.[7]

Placements

IIM Rohtak has wrapped up its summer placements process for the batch of 2015-2017 of PGDM and FPM courses.[8][9]

Associations

On 31 August 2011, IIM Rohtak and Kelley School of Business, Indiana University, signed a Memorandum of Understanding( MOU) for academic collaboration.[10] The partnership will be in the form of joint research and doctoral work, exchange programmes for both teachers and students, and joint academic structures for executives and consultation on joint teaching material. IIM Rohtak also received the membership of prestigious AACSB accreditation agency on 18 January 2012.[11]

Events

Udaan

Udaan is organized annually by Entrepreneurship Cell of IIM Rohtak. Udaan provides a platform for students, mentors, venture capitalists and businesses to learn and share network. The event endeavours to facilitate knowledge and experience sharing by bringing together experts from industry to present their views and breed in students the pride to be ONE's OWN OWNER.

Mission India

The institute organised its first annual Management Conclave, "Mission India", on 30 October 2011. Mr. CM Vasudev, the chairman of HDFC Bank, was the keynote speaker of the event. Mr. Nitin Seth, country head of Fidelity international, Mr. Gagan Bakshi, Director of Interglobe Enterprises (Indigo Airlines), Mr. Sidharath Kapur, CFO of GMR and top executives from Yes Bank, Canon India and other companies presented their views on India’s growth story and challenges ahead.[12]

Infusion

Infusion is the flagship cultural-sports event of Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak. In its first version this year it surmises to say that the event began with a bang. Infusion 2013, sponsored by SBI, has laid the groundwork and the event can only get bigger and better in the versions to come. This year the festival included 50+ events which were successfully organized and coordinated by a force of about 200 people. The chief attractions of this year were: The rocking performance of band Aagman, the ROFL act of stand-up comedian Nitin Gupta and the start-transpired launch of Listen... Amaya (2013) movie. The movie promotions saw all the stars of the movie descend at the event location. They included National Award winner Farooque Sheikh, Deepti Naval, Swara Bhaskar, Siddharth Karnik, director of the movie Avinash Kumar Singh amongst others.

Run for the Girl Child

Indian Institute of Management Rohtak successfully organized the marathon themed "Run for the Girl Child" on 19 February 2012. The event elicited a great response, with more than 2000 participants. Dr. Saket and Dr. Navdeep, who have represented India at the Commonwealth games, graced the occasion and spurred the participants on.[13]

Management Conclave

An annual congregation of managers from the industry who present their views on a pre-decided topic was the brainchild of Indian Institute of Management Rohtak and is now in its third year. For 2012, the theme was discussions for "Fortune at Bottom of Pyramid", the topic presented to the world by Padma Bhushan Dr C. K. Prahalad. As always the discussions were thought provoking and the industry stalwarts also infused this theme with the current market scenario. The interactions were knowledge-rich and of great value to the students.[14]

HR Summit

An annual meet of HR managers organized by Indian Institute of Management Rohtak, sees a huge response from the HR fraternity which comes out in full support to discuss the relevant HR issues plaguing the industry today. 2012 version of the event was themed, "HR challenges of managing new generation employees".[15]
