The editor-in-chief is Sally Scholz (Villanova University). Book reviews are published online by Hypatia Reviews Online. Shelley Wilcox (San Francisco State University) is the book review editor.

Hypatia has its roots in the Society for Women in Philosophy. The journal is named after Hypatia of Alexandria, an ancient Greek philosopher, who taught in the fields of mathematics, astronomy, and astrology.
