Hunterrr is a 2015 Indian adult comedy film written and directed by Harshavardhan Kulkarni. The film features Gulshan Devaiah, Radhika Apte and Sai Tamhankar in lead roles.^[1] The film revolves around an unassuming sex^[2] addict and his lustful journey in life.^[3] The film was released on 20 March 2015.^[4]

Plot

Mandar Ponkshe (Gulshan Devaiah), a typical youth, is a sex addict and a player. Now his in his early 30s, he is only interested in 'scoring' one night stands while his friends are all married with kids. The movie opens with one such scene where his friends tell him to get married as he too old to screw around. In his turn, Mandar explains his philosophy about sex as a purely physical act, somewhat akin to the satisfaction of the 'perfect' bowel movement. He feels that love is a different ball game and isn't necessary for sex.

The narration now moves back several decades to Mandar's early teenage years. The year 1989, Mandar along with his cousin Dilip (nicknamed Yusuf) visits his village in Maharasthra where their cousin Kshitij is already waiting for them. 15 year old Kshitij is studying in a military school and is mature beyond his years in his views and aspects about marriage, love and sex. By the end of their vacation Mandar realises that he is no longer a kid. His life becomes more exotic as he starts to woo girls, watching adult films and fantasizing about ladies.

Later in the year 1995, Mandar is now grown up and he is an engineering student in Pune. There also he is accompanied by his cousins Dilip and Kshitij; the latter is an army officer by now. Mandar stars, Parul (Veera Saxena) only for having sex with her.While making out in the hostel room, they get caught by the warden and Mandar gets expelled from the hostel, leading him to rent a small flat. There he meets a beautiful housewife Jyotsna (Sai Tamhankar) and sets his sights on her. The dapper Kshitij, in the meanwhile, beds a steady parade of stunning girls at Mandar's flat. In a side plot, one of Kshitij's many girlfriends has a friend Anju who is being sexually abused by her own father. Incensed on learning of this heinous act, Kshitij beats up the father and takes Anju` and her kid brother away and even helps them. The ordinary looking Anju has a maturity and strength that gradually makes Kshitij fall in love with her. In an amusing scene, Mandar and Dilip talk about how Kshitij didn't fall for any of the pretty girls he was seeing, but fell in love with a plain girl. They both conclude that love is blind. Kshitij marries Anju and they eventually have a son.

Getting back to Mandar's dalliance with Jyotsana, their casual flirting gradually reaches a point where they start an affair. Hers is a sexless marriage as she's married to an obese, buffoonish man named Deepak. Jyotsna needed sexual fulfillment which she finds later in Mandar. Their furtive affair carries on for a while, Jyotsana visiting Mandar's flat from time to time, before Deepak finds out. Once again Mandar is forced to shift residences and finally ends up staying with Dilip. In 1996, Mandar meets Parul again in order to keep in touch with her and is left heartbroken when he finds her with another guy, Alok.

After college, Mandar is shown working in software and is involved in a booty call arrangement with an older married woman who goes by Savita Bhabhi. After years of loveless one night stands, he takes Dilip's advise and decides to meet some girls through matrimonial sites. His strategy of being honest about his past affairs upsets most potential matches who are orthodox, stuck-up girls. When he finally meets Tripti (Radhika Apte), he is so smitten by her that he decides not be honest, but instead projects a whiter-than-snow image. This almost backfires, as Tripti turns out to be a very open-minded girl who has no hang-ups about her own past and admits to having been in relationships before. Now stuck in a lie, Mandar has to continue projecting himself as an orthodox man. All the same, the two continue to meet and start liking each other.

In the due course, Kshitij is martyred in an an encounter with insurgents in Kashmir. Mandar again is left heartbroken from losing his cousin and friend. This incident brings Tripti close to him as she comforts him. They eventually get engaged, but Mandar is having a tough time with the idea of monogamy. He has one last encounter with Savita Bhabhi. Worst still, while on an errand to pick up a distant relative from the airport, Mandar assumes that the person hasn't turned up and instead tries to pick up an attractive woman who turns out to be the distant relative. Embarrassed and shamed, Mandar barely gets out of the situation by the skin of his teeth.

At this point, Tripti's ex-boyfriend Chaxx Suraj Jagan enters the equation. Cool, suave and charming, Chaxx is all that Mandar is not. That, and Tripti's history with Chaxx trouble him no end and make him insecure to the point where he assumes that Tripti is leaving him for Chaxx. Mandar decides to confess the truth about his sex obsession to Tripti and does so. Tripti also reveals that she got pregnant when she was with Chaxx and there is nothing between him and Tripti now as they broke up. Tripti makes it clear to Mandar that Chaxx abandoned her when she needed him the most and therefore she can never take him back. She also tells him that Mandar is her present and she wants a future with him.

Finally, Mandar becomes very happy as he is getting married to the girl he loved and he tells all the mishaps happened between him and Tripti to his cousin, Dilip.

Character Sketches : HUNTERRR

Mandar :

He is the quintessential dog. Always in heat, in the scent of anything in a skirt! He has for a role model someone flamboyant and carefree, but then is not him. He comes up with a formula – “Never the best, pursue the rest!” He turns an impressionist when he realizes conquests are not always of the bedding variety. There are things that are more meaningful and everlasting than the phallic fulfillment. The taming ensues and the Hunter becomes the hunted! Through many a trial and tribulation a tale unfolds, enriching and rewarding and always entertaining.

Tripti :

She is the girl of the 21st century. An equal in every way to the guy of all ages. She is a sophisticate, an independent, a thinker and a liberal. She is fun, generous, and expansive in her thoughts and very much a non-conformist. The impressionist charms her, with his act but in the process also seems to be affected by her refreshingly open outlook, something that he is not accustomed to. Against his formula he seems to have been landed “the best” on a platter and seems to fall, head-hunted over heels in love!

Dilip :

He is the chronicler of events. The sage and savant as opposed to the hunter’s pillaging. He is the voice of sanity and reason which the hunter mocks. He loves shyly, but gives his all with amazing largesse, without a whit for the consequence. He is the brother every man should have. He is the friend every girl should carry in her purse. He is the boy next door that carries your grocery bags to your apartment. He is also the guy no one imitates or listens to. He is the observer of follies of all that is humankind, story teller and reminder that there are the good, the bad and alas the seldom noticed lovely people!

Khsitij :

If Don Juan were to be brown he would be it! Silver tongued and outrageous! Brash and incorrigible! Pushing the envelope on all things edgy, he is a natural leader. No wonder our protagonist, hero worships him, albeit for all the wrong reasons. Yet he has the heart made of pure platinum and is worthy of the following! He stands by the oppressed and does not resist or desist from walking the talk. Alas the path he treads is all but lost on the Hunter, or is it?

Jyotsna :

She has loved in a time when it meant elopement. She has romanced when cheap gifts was what it embodied. She’s entrapped in the seventies aspiring to be a girl of the next century. She pursues the vicarious attainment of all she couldn’t be! It will be a battle between her will and her mind and the ability to create a place truly her own, creating her space in her time.

Parul :

She is sweetness personified. She is innocence bottled. She is earnestness encapsulated. She is all things first loves should be made of. She gives and gives, without demanding or expecting. She is naïve, she is gullible but oh she is in love. She is up eat despite the disappointments!  She refuses to be the consolation prize, a woman standing up for herself and mind all her own.

Shooting

The entire shooting was done in Mumbai, Pune and some rural parts of Maharashtra.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack is composed entirely by Khamosh Shah, while the lyrics are penned by Vijay Maurya, Swanand Kirkire & Azazul Haque. The whole album was released on 10 February 2015.
