Hugh Anthony Clegg CBE FRCP (19 June 1900- 6 July 1983[1]) was a British medical doctor. He was editor of the British Medical Journal from 1947 to 1965.[2] He was awarded the Gold Medal of the British Medical Association in 1966 and was awarded the CBE in the same year.

He was educated at Westminster School and Trinity College, Cambridge.

He married in 1932 Kyra Engelhardt (1909–2005),[3] daughter of a Russian émigré, Arthur Engelhardt.[4] Their son was Nicholas P. Clegg, the father of Nick Clegg, who became in 2010 Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.[5]

He was photographed by Alexander Bassano for the National Portrait Gallery, London.[6]
