Horizon Foundation is a registered non-profit and non-governmental organisation based in Delhi and registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Since its inception in 2008, our earnest endeavor has been empowerment of women, social, moral, mental and financial upliftment of the deprived and the underprivileged class. It was founded in 1994 as Alap Sankhyak Sikshan Sanstahn. However, by 2006–2007 it was no longer functioning rather it became defunct since most of the functionaries were no longer able to achieve the goals or target due to their busy schedule or bad health. By the end of Year 2007 New Members came into the main fray and by 2008 a New Committee formed and the organisation was renamed as Horizon Foundation. Since 2008, the organisation has undergone major changes, for a new vision and mission had been formulated, which is now being pursued, its programme sectors have been restructured and it has become a pan-Indian organisation with its branch offices based Patna in Bihar, Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, Solapur in Maharashtra and Sonipat in Haryana apart from its registered office in Lucknow and head office in Delhi.

Mission
Horizon Foundation has clearly formulated its mission, it has been their consistent endeavor to strive by it and they commit themselves to : A disciplined, dedicated, determined, resolute attempt to bridge some of the gaps between the grief and happiness of the underprivileged class and all other weaker sections of the society by empowering them with economical, educational, social and self-sustainable resources.

Promote and protect the environment and natural resources, through adoption of appropriate resource management techniques, generally focused at the micro-level of watersheds.
Promote education and awareness as a tool to improve the plight of the underprivileged Urban & Rural poor.
Ensure that a participatory approach is used in the conservation and promotion of natural resources.
Empower women and eradicate gender inequality, namely through micro-credit and self-help groups.
Extend our services to the vulnerable section of elderly, and promote independence among this section.

Improve the community health standard, mainly through preventative measures.

Focus areas
Health
Horizon Foundation believes that "Prevention is Better Than Cure" hence it works towards preventive care towards health of deprived classes and people in need especially in Slum Dwelling Units. With the understanding of Health Administration's, Civic Bodies and Government's limitation to reach out to each and every individual's well-being, the NGO has time-to-time organized Health Check-Up Camps in various slums in different locations,it not just engage in check up rather it works as health awareness camps/units as well. It informs and educates slum dwellers about seasonal and perennial diseases such as AIDS, tuberculosis, Breast cancer, Malaria, Dengue fever, and other vector diseases and helps in providing health care tips.
HIV/AIDS awareness
Horizon Foundation has been actively working towards raising the issues of the marginalized communities in the public forum and enabling them to realize their rights. With the help of partnership building with local newspapers and media Horizon Foundation has emphasized and helped to create awareness on the vulnerability to HIV/AIDS.
Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH)
Horizon Foundation works towards the improvement of pregnancy care for low-income women by working with both the public health care system and the communities. In coordination and working with the public health care system and also with public hospitals to map and establish referral networks and promote appropriate care for women with potential complications. They also collaborate with municipal health clinics to standardize primary antenatal and post-natal services and build capacity of their outreach workers.
Awareness among vulnerable slum communities
Workers and Volunteers of Horizon Foundation through home visits, community meetings, and formation of community health committees, engages pregnant mothers and their families to promote utilization of public services for mothers and newborns and improve their knowledge of antenatal and postnatal danger signs, maternal nutrition, appropriate child feeding practice, and family planning methods.
Women & Child Health and population stabilization activities
Horizon Foundation conducts several Mother, Child Health & population Stabilization related camps and activities. With an Objective towards –
- 100% Child Immunization in the age group of 0 – 5 years.
- Knowledge of and about STD and HIV/AIDS
- Prevention and management of RTI/STD and HIV/AIDS.
- Promotion of small family norms
- Antenatal Care & Facilitating safe deliveries
In order to achieve the objective the Horizon Foundation round the year conducts number of Knowledge sharing, Education and Communication activities through dhools (Drum Beating) folk media SHG (Self Help Group) and Nukkad Natak in the Urban Villages & Slums and conducted awareness camps/melas in different locations such as Patparganj, Mayur Vihar, Shahadra, Seelam Pur, Sangam Vihar and Laxmi Nagar in Delhi Few Semi Urban and Rural blocks of district Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. In Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) and also in few pockets of Dist. Sonipat in Haryana. Horizon Foundation did this through mobilization of community members and provided health facilities such as antenatal checkups, TT immunizations, immunization to children, distribution of contraceptives, counseling services etc. This programme is being implementing with the support our Volunteers, Donors and doctor friends and coordination from the public health system. One of the main objective is to share knowledge and information so that public can avail benefits from the system. With people living in slums Horizon Foundation and its volunteers have shared information about the type of services that can be availed from the government hospitals and dispensary and other health infrastructure, and thus help creating a working environment to provide such services.
Differently challenged and persons with disabilities
Horizon Foundation strives to assist differently challenged children and strongly feels that like every other individual they also have the zeal to lead normal life like their peers. Provided that they have access to different programmes which helps them in providing a means for themselves.
Horizon Foundation undertook a charitable activity in Joint Venture with Canara Bank New Delhi. During the Opening of Canara Bank's Mahipalpur Branch in Delhi, the bank led out an olive wreath to assist Persons With Disabilities by providing Tri-Cycles.
Gender equality
Horizon Foundation is committed to embed gender equity and diversity in all its Projects, plans, policies, programmes and activities. With core value of respect, integrity, commitment and excellence, they have consistently worked towards upholding the equality of the rights and opportunities available to all men and women, with dignity and justice for all. It is reflective of who they are, what they do, where they work and our vision for the future. Gender mainstreaming in our interventions and programs has ensured equality through several measures. In certain groups girl child / students after reaching adolescence miss school due small reasons. With certain observation It was found that menstruation cycle is one the major issues and the problem arise due to lack of knowledge among the classes. Horizon Foundation has distributed Sanitary Napkins in the girl's school and with the help of female teachers was able to impart knowledge to the children reaching the age group.
Voter awareness program
In close co-ordination with CEO Delhi, Returning Officers and Electoral Observers many programs were conducted during Delhi Legislative Assembly election, 2013, Indian general election, 2014 and Delhi Legislative Assembly election, 2015
The objective of the awareness programs was to make voters aware of their rights and importance of voting, selecting the right candidate, how to exercise their vote on EVM's, how to check their name on Electoral Rolls and not to exercise their votes to anyone based on temptation lured upon them by the means of Liquor or Money.
Child labour eradication
In order to eradicate the stigma of Child Labour from the Indian Society, Horizon Foundation conducted several awareness activities aiming towards the General Public. Making them aware how they can help any child to come out of the clasps of Forced Child Labour and how one can help the authorities to curb this menace of Child Labour. Horizon Foundation used the Tool and method to engage public in this work of Social Welfare by standing against Child Labour was with the help of few of their volunteers who were extremely talented in Street Plays and Few School Students. In due duration staging of these Street plays garnered great response from the public and for many among the crowd it stood out to be eye opener.
