Hilde Marie Kjersem, aka Marie Munroe,[1] (born 27 April 1981 in Ålesund, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz singer, known for her own bands and releases, and collaborations with musicians like Jon Eberson, Jørgen Munkeby, Hedvig Mollestad Thomassen and Jarle Bernhoft.

Career

At the age of 14, Kjersem started touring with "Rikskonsertene", and at 16 she joined the rock and rap band "San Jose". She studied Jazz under the guidance of Jon Eberson and Solveig Slettahjell at Norges Musikkhøgskole (2000–03). During her studies she was part of the bands "Subtonic" (2002–03) and "TUB Quartet" including Andreas Hessen Schei (piano), Pål Hausken (drums) and Magne Vestrum (bass). They released the album Red Shoes Diary with their own compositions (2004). The "TUB Duo" she traveled in 2006 on tour together with Schei to Nepal and Jazzmandu in Kathmandu funded by "Rikskonsertene".[2] In 2010 she left Rune Grammofon and started her own label Brødr. Recordings, with her own recording studio Wazzup Records.
