Highland Lakes State Park is a 3,115-acre (12.61 km2) undeveloped state park in the Town of Wallkill in Orange County, New York, USA. The park is located east of the city of Middletown on Route 211. It is the largest undeveloped park managed by the Palisades Interstate Park Commission.[2]
Park description
Highland Lakes State Park is a largely undeveloped park, and primarily offers opportunities for passive recreation including hiking, fishing, horseback riding and model airplane flying.[4][2] Although a series of informal trails and woodland roads exist within the park, no trails are officially maintained and maps of the network are not available.[2]
The central core of the park was the site of the Newburg YMCA's all boys residence camp known as Camp Orange. The camp's last season was in 1973, after which all of the buildings were removed. A remnant of the swimming pool remains as well as the stone foundation of the dining hall.
