Highest Village in Lebanon
There is an ambiguity about the highest Lebanese village, although this ambiguity is not official. Lebanon is a country that has an average altitude of about 1000 meters above sea level, and contains the highest villages in the Middle East. The main villages of concern are Bekaa kafra, Ainata, Ouyoun al Siman, Faqra, Laqlouq, Tfail, Ouyoun Orghoch, and Souaqi. The information concerning altitudes given below is confirmed and based on Google Earth elevation indicator.
Bekaa Kafra
Bekaa Kafra is a village in the Bsharri District and is the most widely considered as the highest Lebanese village. It has an altitude ranging from 1500 meters to about 1800 meters, but the biggest part of the village has an altitude of 1650 meters. In fact, it is the highest village in Lebanon.
Ainata
Ainata is a village of the Western Baalbek District at the bottom of Mount Qurnat as Sawda'. Ainata has an altitude ranging from 1600 meters to 1640 meters. It can't be considered as the highest Lebanese village.
Ouyoun Al Siman and Faqra
Ouyoun al Simane and Faqra are both villages in Kfardebian, but they consist only of ski resorts, winter resorts and hotels and villas. They do not have official municipalities. Ouyoun Al-Simane has an altitude of 1850 meters and Faqra an altitude of 1620 to 1850 meters.
Laqlouq
Like Faqra and Ouyoun Al Simane, Laqlouq is a village in the Jbeil District, near the village of Aaqoura. Laqlouq has an altitude ranging from 1850 m to 2000 m and does in fact have a municipality, but cannot be considered a village.
Tfail
Tfail is a very remote village in Eastern Baalbek District and has an altitude of 1500m. Tfail is an official village, but because it is a very small village and virtually no buildings are found near Tfail for a radius of 20 km (In the Lebanese territory), its high altitude is not taken into consideration.
Ouyoun Orghoch
Ouyoun Orghoch is a Lebanese locality located at the Eastern slopes of Qurnat as Sawda', and it consists of a lake, a few restaurants, and little houses but virtually no permanent residents. It rises 2100 m above sea level and while it is sometimes considered as a village, it cannot enter the list of the highest villages because it has no official municipality or mayor.
Souaqi
The village of Souaqi is a very small village of the Zgharta District at an altitude of 1500 m. Souaqi is rarely considered as a village because is contains about 20 houses, and many Lebanese people, even some residents of the Zgharta District, do not know that Souaqi exists.
The village that should be considered as the highest in Lebanon and the Middle East Bekaa Kafra, and considering Ainata and Bekaa Kafra both the highest villages is also a choice.
