The High Street Historic District in Hartford, Connecticut is a 1.1 acres (0.45 ha) historic district that includes three buildings, all contributing. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.[1]

The district is significant in that it embodies many characteristics of late-19th century and early-20th century commercial architecture, and it illustrates the rapid commercial growth of Hartford after the U.S. Civil War.[2]:8

This district consists of three properties on the block of High Street between Allyn and Asylum Streets in the Downtown Hartford neighborhood. One building located at the southwest corner of Allyn and High is the Judd and Root Building. Another building is the Batterson Block located in center of the street block on the east side. The Batterson Block was built by James G. Batterson, whose first business was the New England Granite Company. Batterson went on to found the Travelers Insurance Company in 1863. The third building is the Capitol Building located at the northwest corner of Asylum and High. Judd and Root and Batterson Block are individually listed on the National Register, while the Capitol Building is a town historic site. The Capitol Building is an office building located across Bushnell Park from the Connecticut State Capitol.[2]:12
