Helen Olivia Bicknell Whately[1] is an English Conservative Party politician. She was elected at the 2015 general election as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Faversham and Mid Kent, succeeding Hugh Robertson.[2]
Early life
Whately grew up in Surrey. Both her parents are doctors.[3] She was educated at Westminster School in London.[4] Whately then matriculated at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford in 1995 where she attained a bachelor's degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE).[5]
Political career
Whately contested as a Conservative parliamentary candidate in 2010 in the Kingston and Surbiton constituency, however she lost to the Liberal Democrats candidate, Ed Davey by 13.3%.[6] She was elected as MP for Faversham and Mid Kent in the 2015 general election with 24,895 votes (54%) and a majority of 16,652.[7]
In July 2015, she was elected to sit on the Commons Health Select Committee.[8] She is also Vice-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Mental Health and Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Healthcare.
Personal life
Whately is married to Marcus and has a son and two daughters.
