Hatice Sultan (1496–1538) (Ottoman Turkish: خدیجہ سلطان) was an Ottoman princess, daughter of Sultan Selim I and Ayşe Hafsa Sultan. She was the sister of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.
Biography
Hatice Sultan was born in 1496. First, she married Iskender Bey who died soon thereafter. Then, she married Pargalı Ibrahim Pasha, who became the Grand Vizier in 1523 and remained in office for 13 years. In 1536, Pargali Ibrahim Pasha was executed by Hatice's brother (Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent).
The couple had two children :
- Huricihan Hanım Sultan
- Sultanzade Osman
There are speculations that Hatice committed suicide after grieving for her husband.She died only two years after her husband's death at the age of forty two. [1]
Depictions in literature and popular culture
In the TV series Muhteşem Yüzyıl, Hatice Sultan is played by Turkish-German actress Selma Ergeç.
