Robert Harry Harpham[1] (21 February 1954 – 4 February 2016) was a British Labour Party politician. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough from the May 2015 general election[2] until he died nine months later.

Harpham was a coal miner at Clipstone Colliery and took part in the miners' strike of 1984–85 as an NUM member, staying out for the duration.[3] He moved to Sheffield in 1985 and studied at Northern College in Barnsley and University of Sheffield as a mature student.[4]

He served on Sheffield City Council from 2004, becoming deputy leader of the council.[3]

He was one of 125 MPs who employed a member of their family, in his case, employing his wife as a part-time researcher.[5] He supported Andy Burnham in the Labour leadership election and was made a PPS to Lisa Nandy.[6] He was diagnosed with cancer in December 2015 and died on 4 February 2016.[7][6]
