Activities and initiatives

Under Oh’s leadership, WEF has launched the Sustainable Campus Initiative and World Energy Forum University Chapters. The organization is planning World Energy Forum 2016 to be held in New York City in the United States.[43][44][45][46] Oh is primarily focused on inspiring a movement of discussions around the topic of energy, elevating the need for energy to a fundamental human right through publications and events organized by non-profits under his management.[47]

World Energy Forum's Goodwill Ambassadors, such as Shawn Rae,[48][49][50][51] work on publicizing and expanding the cause and need for global discourse on energy.

In 2012 Sri Lanka’s First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, presented at World Energy Forum conference in Dubai the proposal for a special focus on "Women in taking a lead on Energy" stating, "As women we should make a vital contribution to protect energy on behalf of the sustainable development for the posterity".[52] The focus of the impact energy has on women from these words has inspired women to be moved to the forefront of focus for 2016 campaign "Women in Energy".

The World Water Organization (WWO)

In July 2008, Oh founded The World Water Organization as another not-for-profit international organization[7][53][54] focused on preservation of resources. WWO holds reoccurring International Water Conferences at the United Nations.[55][56][57] The organization seeks to aid in water infrastructure projects and was involved in several humanitarian projects and was actively participating in recovery and rehabilitation efforts in Haiti and Japan after the earthquakes in 2010 and 2011 respectively.[58]

Oh Institute of New York

Oh founded the Energy and Water Institute of New York in July 2010[59] as an institution of higher learning and research focused on energy, water and environment.[60] The name of the institution was changed to New York Institute of Energy and Water in November 2011.[61] The Board of Trustees once again voted to change the name to Oh Institute of New York in 2013 for the purpose of acquiring the authority to grant degrees to New York State as a comprehensive university with multiple schools.

Upon receiving degree granting authority from New York State, Oh Institute will offer Master of Business Administration (MBA) for Energy Management and Master of Business Administration (MBA) for Water Resource Management degree programs. Once these degree programs are established, the institute has plans to expand to undergraduate degree programs in liberal arts and Ph.D. degree programs in energy, water, and environment.
