MS Harmony of the Seas is an Oasis-class cruise ship under construction at STX Europe shipyard for Royal Caribbean International. Upon completion, she will be the largest passenger ship in the world, surpassing her older sisters MS Oasis of the Seas and MS Allure of the Seas by some 2,000 gross tons.
History
The success of the first two Oasis class ships led Royal Caribbean to order a third ship of the type in December 2012.[1] Harmony of the Seas was floated out on 19 June 2015 and is expected to enter service in May 2016.[4] Harmony of the Seas is slightly larger than the two preceding members of the Oasis class of cruise ships (Oasis of the Seas & Allure of the Seas) - by approximately 2,000 GT.
Staterooms
Harmony of the Seas will feature staterooms which will feature virtual balconies a feature first pioneered on the Quantum class of cruise ships which are also operated by Royal Caribbean International. Harmony of the Seas will also feature Loft Suites, just like the Oasis class & Quantum Class of cruise ships. These will be the largest staterooms on Harmony of the Seas. There will be three types of Loft Suites on Harmony of the Seas:
- The Royal Loft Suite
- The Crown Loft Suite
- The Sky Loft Suite
The state rooms on Harmony of the Seas will be very similar to the staterooms which feature on Oasis of the Seas and Quantum of the Seas. Harmony of the seas will have a range of state rooms from smaller interior rooms, to larger rooms and even suites. Harmony of the Seas will also offer inter-connecting rooms, for example junior suites will connect to create the Family Connected Junior Suite. Royal Caribbean International also offer room service in all staterooms. Passengers are allowed to order food directly to their stateroom and they are also able to request that their bed is turned down at night. Harmony of the Seas will offer accessible rooms which enable guests with mobility or other difficulties to be able to stay on board. All public doors on Harmony of the Seas are wide enough for wheel chairs to get through, which makes Harmony of the Seas a very accessible ship. Harmony of the Seas will also have braille signs around the ship to enable people who are blind to access the ship. All Royal Caribbean International ships are designed with accessibility in mind, even the oldest boats in the fleet, for example:
Features
Harmony of the Seas features a 10-story dual slide called the "Ultimate Abyss" which is an amusement amenity offered to guests on the 5,200-passenger vessel.[5] Harmony of the Seas will contain a theatre which will first produce the popular musical Grease. Harmony of the Seas will have an aqua theatre at the rear of the vessel. At the aqua theatre their will be numerous shows based around diving and swimming. Another feature aboard Harmony of the Seas is the bionic bar which is a bar where drinks are made purely by robots. Harmony of the Seas is the first Oasis class cruise ship to have a bionic bar, a feature which had previously only been available on MS Quantum of the Seas & MS Anthem of the Seas. Harmony of the Seas will also feature Central Park, a popular feature of the first two Oasis-class ships (MS Oasis of the Seas & MS Allure of the Seas).
