Shridhir sariputta Hansa "Hans" Wijayasuriya is a Sri Lankan engineer and corporate executive. The Group Chief Executive of Dialog Axiata, Wijayasuriya has been described by his company as having spearheaded Sri Lanka's mobile revolution.[1]

Early life and education

Wijayasuriya was born in Sri Lanka to P. M. W. Wijayasuriya, Auditor General and Susila Wijayasuriya, a painter. He was the only child. He studied at S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia and graduated from University of Cambridge in 1989 with a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He subsequently obtained his PhD in Digital Mobile Communications from the University of Bristol in 1994. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (professional society), a Chartered Professional Engineer and a member of the IEEE.

Career

In 1994 Wijayasuriya joined Dialog Axiata as a member of the founding management team, and acted as the company's Chief Executive in 1997. Today, in addition to his role of Group Chief Executive Officer at Dialog Axiata, he functions as the Group Chief Operating Officer of Axiata.

Wijayasuriya served as the Chairman of the Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies, and on the Board of Directors of the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology.

Wijayasuriya is a past chairman of GSM Asia Pacific, and has been included in the GSM 100 Role of Honour for his contribution to the Asia-Pacific telecommunications industry.

He serves as the Chairman and Trustee of the Zeiz-d-Day Foundation[2] and has been awarded the CIMA – Janashakthi Business Leader of the Year award as well as the "Sri Lankan of the Year" award.[3]
