Before the merger of Hanover Schools and Horton Schools in 1958, each district was independent and possessed one elementary and one high school per each district. However, as the populations of Hanover and Horton began to shrink, so did school enrollment. Ultimately, the two fledgling districts merged to become what we know today as the Hanover-Horton School District.
