Hannan Shah

Brigadier General Abu Sayed Matiul Hannan Shah, BD Army (Retd.), is a Bangladesh politician from Gazipur District. A current standing committee member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, he is active in current Bangladesh politics. A former cabinet member in the Government of Bangladesh during Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's 1991~1996 administration, Hannan Shah was also a former Member of Bangladesh Parliament in former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's first administration. He was arrested for fiercely criticizing the actions of the caretaker government and soon released. Later, when the interim caretaker government backed by the army and international powers held elections in 2008, Hannan Shah accepted the Dhaka 16 electoral seat party nomination from BNP and undertook the responsibility of the constituency. He did not win the seat however.[1]

Biography

After the assassination of Ziaur Rahman in 1981, he was removed from the Bangladesh Army by General Hussain Muhammad Ershad.

In 2012, his residence was searched by the Bangladesh Police but nothing suspicious was found.[2]

Family

He has two sons and a daughter with wife Nahid Hannan. Shah Rezaul Hannan is the firs born, a graduate of Dhaka University followed by Riazul Hannan who earned his bachelor's degree from Turkey. Hannan Shah’s daughter Sharmeen Hannan earned her BBA degree from Dhaka University and taught college courses in Canada. She is married to Imtiaz Ibne Sattar.[3]
