Haasil is a 2003 film directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia. Irfan Khan won Filmfare award for Best actor in negative role for his portrayal of Ranvijay Singh in the movie. The film is set and shot in and around Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. The movie has developed a cult following in the following years.
Plot
The Background of the movie is Student Politics in Allahabad University where Politics often takes a dirty turn. When college student Anirudh (Jimmy Shergill) meets pretty co-ed Niharika (Hrishitaa Bhatt), they quickly become romantically involved but Unfortunately, their relationship can't escape the student politics of University where two rival gangs of Gaurishankar Pandey (Ashutosh Rana) and Ranvijay Singh(Irrfan Khan) are involved in fight for supremacy. When Aniruddha meets Ranvijay (Irfan Khan), who eliminated Gaurishankar Pandey, he believes he's merely helping his fellow student . Aniruddha ,because of Ranvijay Singh, becomes part of this Dirty Politics and Shot Niharika's cousin accidentally. Ranvijay Singh helps him to escape to Mumbai with the help of his Man (Rajpal Yadav) who fools Aniruddha for days and then finally Aniruddha comes to know the truth of Ranvijay Singh who ultimate aim was Niharika. BadriShankar Pandey(Murad Ali), brother of slained Gaurishankar Pandey, helps Aniruddha, to take revenge from Ranvijay , for killing his brother Gaurishankar Pandey. A fierce Gun Battle takes place at Kumbh Mela between the gang of Ranvijay and Badri Shankar Pandey where Aniruddha Kills Ranvijay. Chief Minister Kabanlal Pandey (Sudhir Pandey) helps them in escaping the crime scene and got Aniruddha discharged from all the cases as he was also blackmailed by Ranvijay

In recent times, Haasil has gained a cult following. Haasil is gaining popularity with the help of cable TV, CDs and the Internet. It contains extremely popular Indian movie actors, and because of that, the dialogues of every superstar are well known among the audience. There are college groups consisting of crazy fan boys doting on superstars, where students talk in Haasil dialects; they are called Haasilmay (हासिलमय) (may=very much into).
