Guy Rubino is a Canadian chef and host of the Food Network Canada show Made to Order. He was the executive chef and co-owner of Rain, a fine dining restaurant in Toronto, Canada. Rain was closed, and re-opened with a new concept (traditional Japanese vs. Rain's fusion) called Ame (Japanese for Rain) in June 2009. Ame closed in August 2011.
Raised at the heart of a traditional Italian family in St. Catharines, Rubino developed a passion for food. He lives in Toronto.
Career
Guy and his brother Michael's first fine dining restaurant was called Zoom, which had a Latin/Asian inspired menu. Soon after the brothers opened Rain in Toronto's entertainment district. Rain's menu was Asian drew from China and Japan. After Rain's seventh year the brothers opened Luce (meaning "light" in Italian) in Le Germain Hotel across the street from Rain. Luce focused on Regional Italian cuisine and like Rain was featured on their TV series Made To Order several times. Since then the brothers have added Ame and Strada to their roster of restaurants.
TV show
Guy and Michael Rubino started talks with Food Network Canada in 2001 to make a show about the behind-the-scenes in a high-end restaurant. In 2003, Made to Order aired on Food Network Canada for the first time, showcasing the running of the restaurant Rain.
Trivia
Guy lost to Iron Chef Michael Symon on Iron Chef America which aired on July 13, 2008. The secret ingredient was rabbit.
