Gutshot Straight is a 2014 American action, thriller directed by Justin Steele and starring George Eads, AnnaLynne McCord, Stephen Lang, Steven Seagal, Tia Carrere, Vinnie Jones, Ted Levine, and Fiona Dourif.[1]

Plot

Jack (George Eads) is a professional poker player who gets involved with the underworld - after taking a wager proposed by gambler Duffy (Stephen Lang). In order to protect his family and himself, Jack must outwit Duffy's brother Lewis (Ted Levine) and scheming wife May (AnnaLynne McCord), both of whom are trying to force him into murdering the other. Jack seeks the help of Paulie Trunks (Steven Seagal), a loan shark who is looking to collect in on Jack's poker debts and wants to protect his investment.

Reviews

Reviews were mixed, running the gamut from generally positive to terrible. Steven Seagal and Vinnie Jones fans were ultimately disappointed with a lack of screen time, while fans of film noir were pleased with the theme and tone. Several reviews online focused on a disparity between the name cast and the size of their respective roles. Praise was given to George Eads, one of the stars of the long running television show CSI. Eads stars as Jack, delivering a performance that "...does show that George Eads has the potential to have a career away from the world of C.S.I". Negative marks were given for the story's wandering from typical crime story to a slow-paced drama that failed to live up to its action-thriller billing. The cast was given mostly solid marks, with Stephen Lang, AnnaLynne McCord and Ted Levine acknowledged as giving effective performances as the film's antagonists. According to DVD commentary, the director Justin Steele and George Eads spoke of the difficulties in completing production in Las Vegas under budgetary constraints.

Production

The movie was filmed in Las Vegas, Nevada.
