Grupo Vidanta is a Mexican conglomerate involved in the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of hotels, resorts and associated infrastructure. The company also owns and operates the Mar de Cortés International Airport.[4][5] The company was founded by Daniel Chavez Moran in 1974 and is headquartered in Guadalajara, Mexico.
History
Daniel Chavez Moran founded the group in 1974. As of 2015, the company employs 15,000 people with an annual revenue more than US$750 million.[6]
Major Projects
The Mar de Cortés International Airport, located in La Jolla de Cortés, Sonora, was opened on November 5, 2009.[4][7][8] In December 2010, the company launched a new family resort brand titled "Vida Vacations".[9] The brand has been included into the "MundoSelecto"[10] Vida Vacation resort brands include Grand Luxxe, The Grand Bliss, The Grand Mayan, The Bliss and Mayan Palace.[11][12][13][14] The firm owns five golf courses under the Vidanta Golf brand at Acapulco, Puerto Penasco, El Manglar, Los Cabos, and Nuevo Vallarta.[15] A Jack Nicklaus Golf Academy opened in Nuevo Vallarta in July 2012, and was the fifteenth Nicklaus Academy worldwide.[16] In 2011, the company organized an annual Uniting Nations Cup golf tournament in Puerto Peñasco.[17][18]
In November 2014, Grupo Vidanta opened JOYÀ, a theater resident show of Cirque du Soleil with a capacity of 600 attendees near the Grand Mayan resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico.[19][20] In April 2015, the company announced plans to invest an estimated $1.3 billion in additional properties including golf courses, luxury resorts and theme parks animated by the Cirque du Soleil.[21][22]
