Grootfontein Air Base (IATA: GFY, ICAO: FYGF) is an air base of the Namibian Air Force Grootfontein, a city in the Otjozondjupa Region of Namibia. The air base is about 4 km (2 mi) south of the center of Grootfontein.[3] It was formerly a military air base for the South African Air Force. Currently it is also the Headquarters of the Namibian Air Force. Most of the Air Force planes and personnel are hosted at the air base .
Facilities
The air base resides at an elevation of 4,636 feet (1,413 m) above mean sea level. It has two asphalt paved runways: 08/26 measuring 3,560 by 45 metres (11,680 ft × 148 ft) and 17/35 measuring 1,040 m × 30 m (3,412 ft × 98 ft).[1]
