History
Greiche & Scaff was founded in Quebec, Canada in 1976. The founders, Dr. N. Scaff[6] and Dr. R. Greiche,[7][8][9] were innovators and leaders in the field of optometry, becoming one of the first retailers of prescription eyewear to open their doors in shopping malls. This innovation provided a friendlier, more accessible location to those seeking optimal health. The company grew quickly and eventually expanded to over 75 locations across Quebec. They also own their own laboratory, one of the most modern and efficient in North America, which specializes in surfacing and edging ophthalmic lenses.
Community role
University of Montreal School of Optometry
As a proud partner of the University of Montreal School of Optometry,[10] Greiche & Scaff supports future optometrists through routine donations. These donations are made with the goal of improving their educational framework. Every year, Greiche & Scaff organizes a golf tournament fundraising event, uniting industry members to raise money for the school. Over the past 12 years, the money raised by this effort has surpassed $600,000. The impact made on the community has been significant, as it raised the quality of the tools at the disposal of those who wish to join it. In 2010, the funds donated were used to modernize the school’s Greiche & Scaff preclinical teaching laboratory. Updates included the addition of a 12th workstation, new technological equipment, furniture and an overall renovation of the lab.
Optometrists Without Borders
Greiche & Scaff is also a supporter of Optometrists Without Borders, an organization devoted to providing free optometry care and health advice to communities from third-world and developing countries. These communities cannot afford or do not have access to modern eye care, and the organization also helps by assisting in the development of local skills and laboratories.
Greiche & Scaff contributes to the organization by providing financial support and through donating recycled frames from all Greiche & Scaff locations. The donations of the recovered frames are made on a monthly basis.
