K.A.P. Viswanatham Medical College (Tamil: கி.ஆ.பெ. விஸ்வநாதம் அரசு மருத்துவக்கல்லூரி) is a medical college run by the state government of Tamil Nadu, which is recognized by Medical Council of India. It is located in the city of Trichy, in Tamil Nadu. The college was ranked third by students in counselling in 2010.[1] It is located at Periya Milagu Paarai in the heart of the city.

History

The college was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. Karunanidhi, on 1997 in memory of Tamil scholar and businessman K. A. P. Viswanatham.

Accreditation and affiliation

The college is affiliated to Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University. The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (earlier known as Annal Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital) is located near the college.

Facilities

The college has more than 30 departments with individual libraries and medical laboratories. On-campus accommodation is available with three men's hostels and two women's hostels. It has an auditorium with a seating capacity of 750. It has four lecture halls with a seating facility for 150. The central library is located at the extreme end of the campus, with 7,000 books and national and international journals. It has two reading halls, one each for Post Graduates' and Professors'.

Both indoor and outdoor games facility are available. It has a gym, a Basketball ground, one Shuttle Courts, one badminton and two volleyball grounds. Ring Ball, Throw ball, Table Tennis, Cricket, Foot Ball are also there.
