Global Eagle Entertainment (GEE) provides inflight entertainment and related services to commercial airlines. The company originated as a Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) into which PAR Capital Management merged its investments in two private companies, Row 44 and Lumexis, in November 2012.[2]
PAR Capital is a Boston-based hedge fund at which GEE Chairman Ed Shapiro is a partner.[3]
Row 44 is a provider of inflight entertainment and connectivity to airlines.
Lumexis manages digital rights for movies and other content for use by airlines.
GEE is extending its reach into related aviation areas. For instance, in August 2015 it purchased masFlight and navAero to form the heart of a new Operations Solutions business as a way of further leveraging its ability to transmit data to/from aircraft in real time.[4]
