Glenlola Collegiate School is an all-girls' grammar school in Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland. The school was founded as a school for girls in approximately 1880. It has achieved some of the best exam and extracurricular results in the region.[1]
On 28 May 2003, a new school opened, including a pre-school playgroup and Cygnet House. The official opening was performed by HRH The Duke of York on 8 October 2003. For the first time, the entire school population of 1200 girls and staff could be accommodated in one building, which, aside from classrooms, includes laboratories, a resource bases, a sports hall, a lecture theatre, fitness suite, assembly and gym halls, a library, a design and technology suite and separate locker rooms. ICT provision exists in all teaching rooms and exterior playing surfaces are floodlit.
In 2002, the school was ranked second of the controlled schools in Northern Ireland and 29th in the whole UK according to The Sunday Times Parent Power. The current principal, Mr W E Thompson, took up post in February 2010, taking over from Richard Finlay.
