Glasgow City Mission

Glasgow City Mission is a Christian charitable organisation whose remit covers Glasgow, Scotland. It is dedicated to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and providing practical help and support to homeless and disadvantaged people.

History

The Mission was founded in 1826 by David Nasmith and was the first official City Mission in the world.[1]

Events

Glasgow City Mission runs a number of events and clubs throughout the week ranging from photography and IT classes to advice on housing and monetary issues. For a full list of the activities available visit - Activities at the mission

Evening Drop in

Glasgow City Missionruns a free evening drop in every weekday from 8-10pm for the homeless of Glasgow to come in for soup and a sandwich along with some good company. Mission staff and volunteers spend time talking to any visitors, offering help and prayer for those who need it.

Child and family centre

Glasgow City Mission's Child and Family Centre has been working with children and families in Govan, Glasgow since 1986 and has become an integrated part of the community there. The Centre provides a Pre-School Nursery for an average of 40 children, a Parent and Toddler Group for over 25 toddlers and their parents, a toddler playgroup, and family support classes and advice for parents. The centre is run by dedicated play and nursery workers but relies on help from volunteers.

Food bank

Glasgow City Mission runs the largest food bank in the Glasgow area, providing much needed support for those disadvantaged people who are most in need of help. The food bank is open to all on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10-12 noon, no appointment or recommendation is required. The food bank is maintained purely though voluntary donations from organisations and individuals. Glasgow City Mission's food banks are similar to that of Glasgow's Needy.
