Giovanni dal Ponte
Giovanni dal Ponte (1385 – ca. 1438) was an Italian painter of the late-Gothic period. He is known by Vasari as dal Ponte, but many other documents cite Giovanni di Marco.[1][2]
Biography
He was born in Florence and worked in Assisi and Rome as well as his hometown.[3] He is known for genre works and historical allegories as well as religious works.[3] He shared a studio with Giovanni di Smeraldo in Florence. He died in Florence.
He is not to be confused with the much earlier painter Giovanni da Santo Stefano da Ponte (1306–1365). There is a Madonna and Child With Angels attributed to Dal Ponte in the Blanton Art Museum in Austin, Texas.
