Ginbot 7
Ginbot 7 is a political party founded by Dr. Berhanu Nega, the founding chairman of Rainbow Ethiopia: Movement for Democracy and Social Justice and a deputy chairman of Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD).[1] According to their mission statement, Ginbot 7's goal is "the realization of a national political system in which government power and political authority is assumed through peaceful and democratic process based on the free will and choice of citizens of the country."[2]
In June 2011, the Ethiopian government labeled Ginbot 7 as a terrorist group, along with the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) and Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), under the country's anti-terrorism proclamation.[3] The Committee to Protect Journalists criticized the move, predicting it would have a chilling effect on journalists attempting to cover opposition figures such as Berhanu Nega.[4]
