Ghazi University (Urdu: غازی یونیورسٹی) is a university in Dera Ghazi Khan, Punjab, Pakistan. Ghazi University was established at Dera Ghazi Khan in 2012 on the initiative of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.[1]
History
In 1998, with the vision to improve the academic facilities in remote areas of Punjab, the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad opened its Sub-Campus "College of Agriculture" at DG Khan. Later in 2004, following the same principle the BZU also established its Sub-Campus at DG Khan. However, after long run efforts of the campuses and district administration, on July 11, 2014 the College of Agriculture DG Khan, BZU Sub-campus, Postgraduate Degree College and Ghazi Medical College were given the status of Ghazi University Dera Ghazi Khan.[2] [3] In 2012 Govt. of Pakistan establish a new university where 10000 students with ten different departments at a time. The Punjab government has ordered reconstitution of four educational institutes of Dera Ghazi Khan, including Bahauddin Zakariya University sub-campus as Ghazi University DG Khan. The employees of these institutions have also been absorbed in the new university. According to a Punjab government letter (No19-1/2011) issued on June 19, the Government Postgraduate College for Boys, College of Agriculture, DG Khan Campus of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, BZU DG Khan’s sub-campus and Ghazi Khan Medical College have been reconstituted in accordance with the Ghazi University Act 2012. “The property owned or possessed and all rights and all interests held or enjoyed and all liabilities subsisting against government postgraduate college for boys, college of agriculture, BZU sub-campus and Ghazi Medical College subject to provisions of University of Health Sciences Ordinance 2002 (Ordinance LVII of 2002) shall stand transferred to the university,” the Article 3(6) of the Ghazi University Act said. The Article 3(7) of the Act states that all employees, regular or on contract based, serving in these four institutions shall stand absorbed in the service of the university, except those who are working in such colleges or sub-campuses on deputation with or without deputation allowance.

There are 5 faculties and 21 departments of Ghazi university, Dera Ghazi Khan[4] these are

To orient students with professional knowledge internships are arranged for them. Programs that are being conducted are MBA, BBA (morning and evening), MBA Executive, MBA-IT, MCS, MSc Economics and MA English. Recently the campus added a new program of MSc Sociology. Programs like BS(CS), BS(IT), MIT and MCS (evening) BSBA BS Urdu MAPak MPhil in Education are inplans. Along with new programs, the university is thinking about starting new departments like Biotechnology, Statistics, Environmental Studies, Mass Communication and Performing Arts. University great portion is Medical science department where more than 50 teachers and 2500 students of different programs. Ghazi Khan Medical College [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10]
Research profile
The goal of the Ghazi University has always been to produce quality rather than quantity. The focus has always been to develop close liaison with the industry. For this, regular industrial visits have been arranged and this will continue. Eminent speakers who are regional and national business leaders are invited for regular seminars.
Facilities
university consisted of 1,189 acres of land. In the university, there are 185 classrooms, 71-room admin bloc, five libraries, 39 laboratories, five hostels and seven sports grounds. There are 137,159 books and 464 journals in the five libraries. Currently, 5,500 students are studying here. The library includes of Ghazi University D.G.Khan all reference books of the courses that are being conducted as well as other books. Up-gradation of the library is in process. Students will be provided with the latest edition of well-reputed journals. A unique joint degree program with international universities is under consideration. This would greatly improve the academic as well as the communication skills of the students.[11]
