The Georgina Cole Library, located in Carlsbad, California, originally opened in November 1967, and reopened on April 15, 2000, after a half-year restoration project. It is a full service library named after Georgina Cole, the city's first library director.[1] The Cole Library is a branch of the Carlsbad City Library.
Friends of the Carlsbad Library, and the Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation,[2] support many of the library programs.

History
In 1916, the city began a library collection of loanable books at a general store. Outgrowing the space, the book collection moved to a newspaper office, a former church building, and a water company building. By 1956, it became an independent city library. The last home for the books before moving into the Cole Library included splitting the collection between two downtown buildings: the children's books were housed at an old church on Roosevelt Street, while the adult books were in a bank building on Elm Avenue (now Carlsbad Village Drive).[1]
When the library opened in 1967 at 1250 Elm Avenue,[3] it housed 45,000 volumes. Area museums, including San Diego Museum of Man, rotated exhibits in the upstairs room.[1]
