Georgina "Georgie" Twigg (born 21 November 1990) is a British field hockey player.[1]
Twigg has played for England and Great Britain since 2010. Unusually Twigg won her first GB senior cap shortly before she won her first England cap in the summer of 2010. Since then she has won Bronze with England at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi (where she scored the winning goal in the Bronze medal match), a Bronze medal with England at the 2010 World Cup in Argentina, and Silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She has also won a Silver medal with Great Britain at the 2012 Champions Trophy in Argentina in and a Bronze medal at the London 2012 Summer Olympics.
Twigg was named England Hockey's Young Performance Player of the Year in 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013.
Twigg has played for Surbiton, Clifton, University of Bristol, Cannock and Lincoln.[2]
Personal life
Twigg is from Lincoln. She attended Repton School in the Midlands.[3] Having moved up a year at school she arrived at the age of 17 at Bristol University in September 2008 where she read Law and resided at Wills Hall, playing hockey for university and for Clifton.
After her success at the Olympics her home village post box was painted bronze, however it was returned to its regular, red colour by the Royal Mail.[4]
She is also the face of British Asparagus.[5]
