Parliamentary elections will be held in Georgia in 2016. The ruling Georgian Dream coalition, led by Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, will seek re-election for a second term in office.[1][2] Opposition parties that have confirmed their intention to challenge the incumbents include the former ruling party, the United National Movement, the Free Democrats—formerly a member of the Georgian Dream coalition—led by Irakli Alasania,[3] and the Alliance of Patriots of Georgia.[4]
Electoral system
The 150 members of the unicameral Parliament will be elected by two methods; 77 by proportional representation in a single nationwide constituency and 73 by first-past-the-post in single-member constituencies.[5]
