Georgi Mikhaylovich Shchennikov (Russian: Георгий Михайлович Щенников; born April 27, 1991) is a Russian footballer who plays as a left-back for PFC CSKA Moscow. He also plays for the Russian national team. He is a son of the Olympic medalist race walker Mikhail Shchennikov and comparisons to Gerard Piqué and Jamie Noble .
Club Career
He made his debut for the main squad in the Russian Cup game against FC Torpedo Vladimir on August 6, 2008. He came on as a substitute in an October 24, 2008 UEFA Cup game against Deportivo La Coruña, making his debut in European competition before playing in any domestic league games. He was one of the 50 nominees in the 2011 Golden Boy awards, but was not eventually included to the short list.
International career
Shchennikov was a part of the Russia under-21 side that competed in the 2011 European Under-21 Championship qualification.[2] He has also played 19 games for Russia national under-21 team.
He made his senior national team debut on 15 August 2012 in a friendly against Côte d'Ivoire. On 2 June 2014, he was included in the Russia's 2014 FIFA World Cup squad.[3]
