George Sherwood (Canadian politician)

George Sherwood (May 29, 1811 ??) was a judge and political figure in Canada West.

He was born in Augusta Township in 1811, the son of Levius Peters Sherwood. He studied law, was called to the bar in 1833 and set up practice in Prescott. He was named Queen's Counsel in 1856. He represented Brockville in the 1st Parliament of the Province of Canada and served until 1851; he was reelected in 1857 and served until 1863. He served on the Board of Railway Commissioners (later known as the Canadian Transport Commission) and as Receiver General from 1858 to 1862, when he became Commissioner of Crown Lands. In 1865, he was appointed judge of the court for Hastings County.
