Political career

Mayor of Freeport

Gaulrapp became Mayor of Freeport, Illinois in 2005, when his predecessor, James Gitz, stepped down.[1] He was a member of the City Council prior to his election to Mayor. In 2013, James Gitz ran again for Mayor and defeated Gaulrapp in the Freeport Citizen’s Party primary.[2]

U.S. House election, 2010

In 2010, Gaulrapp ran for the United States House of Representatives for Illinois's 16th congressional district.[3] He was unopposed in the Democratic primary[4] and thus became the Democratic nominee, but was defeated by the Republican incumbent, Donald A. Manzullo 65%-31%.[5][6](p48)

U.S. House election, 2012

In 2012, Gaulrapp ran again for Congress, but this time for Illinois's 17th congressional district.[7] After the redistricting, Freeport was placed in the 17th congressional district, then represented by Republican Bobby Schilling. Of the three candidates in the Democratic primary, Gaulrapp finished second, after Cheri Bustos, who would later win the general election.[8]
